Sen. Kettle Proposes Elimination of Minimum Business Corporation Tax
Eliminating the $500 minimum would keep $23 million in the hands of local businesses that need it, says Kettle. Senator Nicholas D. Kettle, (R-Dist. 21, Coventry, Foster, Scituate, West Greenwich) last week introduced legislation that would eliminate the $500 minimum business corporation tax. Rhode Island annually levies a corporate income tax equal to nine percent of net income.
URI's Business Engagement Center to Host Free Forum in Newport

John M. Andrews, U.S. Navy Veteran, Dies at 82
Andrews, 82, of Narragansett, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Rigney) Andrews for forty-nine years. Born in New Bedford, MA on February 20,1931, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (McCann) Andrews. He lived in North Providence for fifty years before moving to Narragansett in 2010.

Sen. Sheehan Calls For Lowering Corporate Tax Rate

Local Foster Teens Pen Book About Life Experiences
The 22 students who contributed to the book participated in URI's First Star Academy in 2012. Rhode Island students in the foster care system who attended the First Star Academy at the University of Rhode Island have written a book based on their foster care experience entitled Peek into My Pain: Reveal My Strength , which is available for purchase.
Coventry Blazers U-12 Girls Soccer Team Wins 2014 MLK Tourney
Congratulations to the U12 Girls A-Team for winning the 2014 MLK Tournament at Wild World of Indoor Sports South! It was a very exciting final match between the Coventry Blazers and the South County team. The Coventry Blazers tied against Lusitiana 0-0, beat Bayside FC 2-1 and also beat South County 2-1 to make it into the Finals.
