Council Approves Veteran Tax Exemption Amendment
The amendment will offer active duty service members and Gold Star families a $1,000 tax break on their homes. At their Jan. 13 meeting , members of the Coventry Town Council approved an amendment to the town Code of Ordinances that will provide a tax break for property owners who are active duty service members or Gold Star families of the United States armed forces.
Rep. Walsh, Sen. Cool Rumsey to Host South County Voter Forum
South County residents are invited to share their thoughts, hopes and concerns for their communities during Saturday's community forum. From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 25, Rep. Donna Walsh (D-District 36, Block Island, Charlestown, South Kingstown, Westerly) and Senator Cathie Cool Rumsey (D-District 39, Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Richmond) will host a forum at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, located at 4417 Old Post Road in Charlestown.

Is Your Kid Addicted to the Internet?
A look at the growing problem of Internet addiction in kids all over the world. That’s what a neighbor said to me the day I returned to full-time office work after an extended child-rearing hiatus. Although I laughed at the time, that remark took root in my brain. Every day I’m baffled at how many hours slip by when I’m doing online research.

SK Police Seek 2 Men in Meadowbrook Way Burglary
Dwayne Hazard and Jevon Scholl are wanted by police for the Jan. 13 burglary. South Kingstown police have issued arrest warrants for two men wanted for a recent burglary. Dwayne Hazard of 52 Franklin Ave., Westerly, and Jevon "Chucky" Scholl of 881 Atwells Ave., Providence, are accused of breaking into an apartment at 20 Meadowbrook Way around 10 p.m. on Jan. 13.

Not Enough Young People Signing Up for Obamacare
About 40% of the enrollment would need to be young people in order to keep premiums down, experts say. Those who are enrolling in government-subsidized private insurance through Obamacare are much grayer than what experts say is needed. In order to keep premiums down, more young adults between 18 and 34 would need to sign up.
